The SEAF collaboration

A collective effort to develop and progress SEAF

SEAF is a collective, multi-sector effort to achieve better public good outcomes for Australia’s environment. The efforts are led by The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI) and the Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI). SEAF has the support of organisations from multiple sectors, working together to develop trusted data and information supply chains, and information products that can be used in research and decision making.

The following have partnered with SEAF, providing funding support and in-kind contributions through the provision of data, and specialist scientific and technological expertise:

  • The Western Australian Government through the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the Department of Transport
  • The Australian Government through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
  • The Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy through the Australian Research Data Commons
  • Westport
  • Water Corporation
  • The University of Western Australia
  • CSIRO
  • Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre
  • Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA
  • BHP
  • Rio Tinto
  • Fortescue
  • Microsoft
  • PwC
  • IXUP
  • Sentient-Hubs
  • Arinco
  • Databricks

The development of SEAF has been guided by a cross-sector leadership group
For the past few years, the Digital Environmental Impact Assessment Working Group in Western Australia has been driving a data sharing culture and has played a key role in providing strategic advice towards the development of SEAF. The group comprises senior leaders from Western Australian Government agencies, the Environmental Protection Authority, industry peak bodies and research institutions.
The leaders have helped shape how biodiversity information in collected, shared and utilised. SEAF is the next step – the cloud-based mechanism that will improve access to information and will lift the understanding of cumulative environmental impacts.
