How do we identify issues that science can help address?

Our key guiding principle is that science must address the needs of those who require quality biodiversity data to make decisions.

Consequently, engaging with end-users is the first step we undertake to identify issues and gaps in knowledge.

Each of our research partners has a representative on our Collaboration, Leverage and Integration Committee (CLIC). Based on input from end-users, the CLIC then makes collective decisions on how their collective capacity can best deliver the research required.

Any collaborative research that is undertaken as the WABSI group, is clearly aligned with needs that have been identified.

  • CLIC reviews and recommends research projects that are multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary: this provides end-users access to the best research expertise in W.A.
  • It helps foster collaboration and joint publications: this helps build knowledge for greater uptake of research by those who use biodiversity information.
  • It maintains engagement with end users to ensure research activity and outcomes are aligned with needs.
