Advanced biomonitoring tools to safeguard WA’s groundwater – Protecting biodiversity and human health
WABSI’s subterranean fauna research program has received a major boost, with a new project awarded funding through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme to develop advanced biomonitoring technologies for subterranean fauna.
The project will develop tools for end users to more accurately monitor groundwater biodiversity. This will enable evidence-based decisions by regulators and stakeholders. By strengthening how underground ecosystems are monitored, WABSI is supporting more efficient, accurate and scalable biodiversity assessment in some of Western Australia’s most unique and least understood environments.
Led by WABSI, this is a cross-sector collaboration involving government and industry. It will help safeguard groundwater for human consumption, biodiversity protection and enable greater sustainability in the mining industry.
The project addresses a key end user priority identified in WABSI strategic Subterranean Fauna Research Program.
