There is an increasing expectation that the private sector will play an important role providing the funding and action needed to deliver on the global biodiversity framework’s mission – halting and reversing biodiversity loss. However, shifting away from ‘business as usual’ will take transformative change, and there are currently many uncertainties (sometimes controversies) about how, if and when businesses can meaningfully contribute to these efforts.

Research Fellow and Senior Principal Consultant – University of Oxford and The Biodiversity Consultancy
Thomas White is a Research Fellow with the Nature Positive Hub at the University of Oxford and a Senior Principal Consultant for The Biodiversity Consultancy in Cambridge, UK. Tom’s recent research has focused on two major areas: 1) understanding how we can better engage, and improve the outcomes from private sector biodiversity management (from measuring impacts and setting targets, to taking effective action); and 2) how we can collect and better use evidence to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of actions to protect and restore biodiversity.
