Inviting submissions for consideration
The Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute (WABSI) is leading the Completion Criteria and Risk Based Monitoring project that addresses key priorities expressed by industry and government on issues relating to mine site closure.
The project is now undertaking an independent science review to determine the current state of knowledge and is seeking your submissions for consideration.
The review will analyse state, national and international rehabilitation research in order to provide a scientific basis for government policy and future research.
Whilst considerable progress has been made with mine closure and rehabilitation planning in Western Australia, there is an identified need to build capacity to better understand and measure the success of rehabilitation.
In addition, a key issue across Australia and internationally is that practical outcomes and measurable completion criteria need to be set, particularly with respect to ecological parameters.
WABSI works closely with the project research delivery team and is Chair of the Research Steering Committee and the Industry Advisory Group.
We invite you to take this important opportunity to have your relevant case studies, reports or publications considered as part of the independent science review. Your work will help inform a robust, efficient scientific framework to be developed. It will also assist with recommendations to develop site-specific completion criteria and associated monitoring for Western Australian post-mining rehabilitation.
