Beautiful Banksia woodlands

“The book synthesises more than 20 years of knowledge and is a great example of how industry-scientific partnerships can deliver leading solutions.  It represents how partners can work with WABSI to maximise research and achieve fantastic outcomes that benefit both business and community.” Vern Newton, Hanson Construction Materials.

The book is a guide to help specialists meet the challenge of restoring the Swan Coastal Plain and is derived from research and development conducted by WABSI partners Kings Park and Botanic Garden and The University of Western Australia, in collaboration with Hanson Construction Materials (formerly Rocla Quarry Products).

It highlights how long-term industry-scientific partnerships driven by mutual visions can deliver leading restoration solutions.

Launched last month by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson, the book provides a comprehensive overview for practitioners, researchers and policy makers to assist Banksia woodland restoration activities and decisions. WABSI CEO Peter Zurzolo was the master of ceremonies at the launch event.

“When we visited the restoration site, we saw first-hand the incredible results from the work undertaken jointly by our partner organisations. This model of researchers and end users working together is critical to successfully conserving our nationally important Banksia woodlands,” Dr Guy Boggs, WABSI’s Restoration Node Leader said.

“Many of the plant species in the Banksia Woodlands do not grow naturally anywhere else in the world. Long-term collaborative programs between government and industry are vital to finding solutions for delivering complex biodiversity conservation,” Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said.
